1975 - Wally Broeker (Columbia University) publishes a seminal paper in the journal Science entitled "Climate change: Are we on the brink of a pronounced global warming?" The phrase 'climate change' features prominently, but 'global warming' is the phrase that sticks.

2011 - Scientific support for human-caused climate change is stronger than ever. After 35 years of intensive research, studies that are neutral or support the idea of human-caused climate change each outnumber those that are skeptical of the concept by more than 10:1.
